Getting Started

So I've been saying since August that I was going to start blogging. Why you might ask? Well being a library/information student means that blogs, rss feeds and twitter (spartyliblover) are all the rage (among about a thousand other digital media things). I keep feeling like I need to get into it and try to keep at it.
My goal will be to update at least once a week about things that come about being me. So this includes my life as a grad student at UMich while trying to deal with my conflicting love for MSU being an alumni and all. As well as my time as a teen services intern in a small public library just north of Detroit and the crazy traffic that I have to sit in while I drive to and from work. This will probably also include the crazy things that go on with my church group from State that I haven't been able to give up yet, as well as anything with my boyfriend, who I met at church. I figure I'll end with the book I'm currently reading, and the book I'm currently listening to in the car.
I suppose I could give you a bit of an update on this week and we'll just go from there. I spend the weekend in EL, like I do almost every weekend. I got my hair cut so it finally looks like Alice from Twilight and enjoyed some time with Chris and Canterbury friends. At Kristina's Birthday party:

What sticks out most to me about the weekend though is when I drove on to campus Saturday morning I was struck with this overwhelming feeling of how much I love that place. It was so
pretty with the fresh snow and not too many people out yet. Everything was so peaceful and beautiful. I really think that my heart lives in EL or at least wants to be there more than anywhere else. Sunday I took my brother and two of his friends to the auto show in Detroit. We saw a lot of sweet cars and kept a running total of accidents/cars on the side of the road (26 total) and spent a lot of time praying that we wouldn't end up in the ditch. Me and an Aston Martin:

Not having class on Monday lead to a shopping spree where I bought some dressy tops to wear to work, a Kitchen Aid mixer that I've been meaning to buy since May and a bunch of books.
Tuesday lead to class, lots of it. But my morning professor was kind enough to let us out early to go watch the Inauguration. It was a wonderful experience watching it with about 50 other people. I'm excited to see what is to come from this, especially in terms of libraries since President Obama did address the American Library Association Annual Conference a few years ago. Wednesday was work. I went to my first Teen Advisory Council which was, in a nutshell, chaos. The teens talked more to each other about unrelated things than to the group about what they want to do. Hopefully we can start running more successful meetings in the future and maybe get some more participation and do things at the library that they really want to do. Thursday I went to class, where I hardly paid attention. I've been having a hard time focusing this semester and I can't figure out why. I sprinted out of class to go listen to a recruiter from the CIA talk about working for The Agency. And everyone that talked that works for the CIA seriously called it The Agency, I didn't realize that they really referred to it that way, I just thought it was something Hollywood had come up with. I drove up to Auburn to get my bridesmaid dress fitted as soon as that was done. The dress is gorgeous but it was super tight in the hips and about 5 inches too long. Hopefully they can take the sides out a little bit so it doesn't bunch. I drove back and went to the Dewy Decimator basketball game. We got killed, 51-31, and I didn't score any points this week. Oh well, there's always next week. Today was more work where I spent the majority of 5 hours taking books off the shelves, moving the shelves to fit an extra one in and putting all the books back on the shelves. One thing about it is that I'm learning more about the collection which is sure to come in handy.
And now I think it's time for a Skinny Cow and some Anne Hathaway Disney movies (Ella Enchanted and Princess Diaries).

Currently Reading: Masquerade: a Blue Blood Novel
Currently Listening: Princess Academy
