This week has been full of frustration for me, and it's only Wednesday! I have a group collection development policy due tomorrow that I've been working on for the last 2 days. I realized last night while I was working on the 4 section I had been assigned that I had 6 of the 16 sections! In a 4 person group that doesn't seem right, but I figured it was too late to complain. Then I decided to see how the rest of it was divided and to my surprise the person that divided things up took the part that only had 2 sections! Both were related to demographics of the area, and one of them was basically just copy/paste of the census. Some how that doesn't seem to equal the 4 policies I created, the partnerships the library has, not to mention making 3 forms from scratch. Last night I really wished there was something I could destroy related to the class, but there wasn't so I just went to bed.
When I finished up with my parts of the collection development policy this morning I found all the readings for this week for my "professional practices" class. I have to lead discussion this week and I am very disappointed that all the readings this week are health/medical library related. This is the last area of librarianship I want to go into because it holds 0 interest for me. Public libraries are where I want to be, I'd be alright with federal or academic libraries, certain special collections would be okay, and law and business libraries would even be preferable to medical libraries. I think this is probably because I have background or experience in each of these areas, and nothing other than friends that are in medical school to make me want to do health/medical librarianship. Ugh. I wish that there had been more diversity in types of libraries this week. I mean the overall question/topic for the week is: "How do libraries & librarians help? What differences do they make?" Umm I think this applies outside of the health/medical library field, why don't we have any other articles??? I guess this means I really am going to have to find an additional article that looks at other areas of librarianship to be a good discusion leader. What's one more thing to do by tomorrow?
I should get reading so that I don't have to do it all tonight when I get home from work. Sorry for the rant on classes.
Currently Reading: A Great and Terrible Beauty
Currently Listening: The Graveyard Book (It's amazing!!)
