Happy Hump Day everyone! Although it is Ash Wednesday so I suppose it isn't really all that happy of a day.
We almost over slept this morning, but luckily we had all showered last night and were able to make it to the Library on time. I spent my morning working on coming up with suggestions for their microform guide and finishing up e-reference questions before going with 2 of the ladies that worked there to do collection/cataloging issues. They let me watch them work through problems that come up in how things are put into the catalog since the library generally has at least 2 copies of every book because of copyright laws. This causes issues when one of the reference copies goes missing or when they are trying to weed. It was really interesting and makes me a bit nervous to take cataloging in the fall.
For lunch Rachel, Beth and I walked through the tunnels to the Visitors Center at the Capital where we paid a rediculous ammount for a tiny lunch and the place was crowded with tourists. It was cool to get to see Emanipation Hall though.
After lunch I continued to work on my thoughts on the microform guide and typed it up memo style to give to them. I hope it's what they were looking for. I feel like I don't know enough about the programing part of it for it to super useful, but I tried to provide user views on how it works. I spent the last 1/2 hour trying to figure out which alcove was in National Treasure 2, but was unsuccessful.
Rachel, Beth and I headed to the front of the Jefferson building (where I am working, the Library has 3 buildings, Jefferson, Madison and Adams) because we hadn't actually been to see what it looked like. I've brough the Tots with me and was taking pictures of them in front of the Library and with the Capital in the background. Then we headed next door to the Supreme Court, where the security guard told me that I couldn't put them on the top of the bottom set of steps, and had to put them on the side walk. I don't know what his problem was, but whatever.
We went a tex-mex place for dinner, Austin Grill, and it was acutally really good. I'll have to try and remember it for whenever I come back to DC. Now after some milkshakes from Ollie's and a rousing game of Settlers of Catan (which I won tonight!) it is time for a bit of internet surfing and homework before a shower and sleeping.
Hopefully I'll be able to update again tomorrow!
