After a nice weekend at my aunt's farm for my uncle's 60th birthday (and 2 unplanned trips to Austin for my mom's car) I drove into Austin again today for the first day of the Texas Library Association's Annual Conference. I only went to 2 sessions today (most of the day was ticketed pre-conference events) but they were both great. The first was about a hour of book talking by two women who were great book talkers. I need to work on my book talking skills! The second session I was torn, there were 3 that I wanted to go to, I went and got handouts for 2 of them, and decided in the end to go to the YA Dystopia session. It was a great choice. Turns out it was a panel discussion with 5 YA Dystopia authors. One of which I just finished listening to his dystopia Sunday! It was a fantastic session with the authors talking about writing processes, the appeal of both writing and reading dystopias, and fun facts about them. I really enjoyed it. I'm excited for tomorrow for all the sessions and for the exhibit hall to open! I love exhibit halls at library conferences because there is always so much great stuff from free books to great new information about systems or furniture or better ways to do things in the library. Hopefully tomorrow will be a productive day. I'm also keeping my fingers crossed for that job offer to come in tomorrow too. I am starting to worry that I've gotten my hopes up too much and I'm going to be crushed if I don't get the job, but it's been so hard not to since this job sounds so wonderful, in a place I love, and the people I met there were awesome. Fingers crossed and prayers are being sent up for sure.
I should get some sleep since I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow!
I am envious - first, that you are in Austin! (Where I was born and raised, and hopefully I too will visit in a few weeks). Second, what a neat sounding conference!! I am so glad that you have been able to attend. And I'll definitely be praying for your joy future!
